Child care question

Hi, I am working on the class of 88's reunion for next year. A few people have asked what alums who have children but whose parents no longer live in Rolla might do with their children during the evening activities. Any suggestions? I suppose each person could try to work something out with friends whose parents do live in town. I wanted to find out if this has been an issue for anyone this year, and what your solution was.

Thanks!!

I'd suggest asking the local high school clubs (band, cheerleaders, French club, etc.) if they want to do a fundraiser by babysitting that night. Then you can just rent an extra room at your venue and have all the kids in there with several high school students to watch over them.

Hey Kathy, that's a great idea, I never thought about that.

I have forwarded this concern on to the rest of the reunion committee members asking for suggestions. I am sorry I didn't think of this when we were planning the reunion to begin with...they say hindsight is 20/20. I really hope we have a good turnout for the mixer, but I understand the childcare issue. Have a great week and I'll see ya all at the football game next week. - Tonya

Hi Beth! Since you still have a long time before your reunion, you most likely have more options. If it were up to me, I would try to set up a kids' night at the same time as the adult get together. You can show movies or play games or make crafts. I don't live in Rolla anymore, but I'm sure there are places that would host a gathering like that. Or even better if you could get a Rolla person to host a kids get together in their home. Find out how many kids and what ages they are and then go from there.

Just out of curiousity, how many class of 1987 alums need child care for Saturday night? How many kids and what ages? Maybe we could throw together a movie night or something for the kids if someone has a good house or other place to host it?

Hey Debbie...I guess I am one of the fortunate ones....my folks still live in Rolla and are willing to watch my kids(15 and 11). You might contact Jeremy Jamison(or any of the other reunion committee) and see if he(they)knows of anyone willing to do child care. I never even gave thought to the fact other classmates might have issues with this and I am sorry, I should have mentioned it when we were planning this. If you want, email me and I'll give you the numbers for the rest of the committee members. - Tonya

I would really like to bring my son but would have to skip going to the adult mixer unless there is some kind of child care provided. So far I have no information about where to find any in Rolla... So we might just have to leave after the Bar-B-Que.
